Brumbies name Smith in side
The ACT Brumbies are standing by Wallaby George Smith, including him in their Super 12 side to face the Bulls despite a police investigation into his alleged involvement in a Canberra nightclub fight which left a man with facial fractures.
The Australian Federal Police have interviewed a man who complained he was beaten by Smith at the El Rancho Bar and Grill in the Canberra suburb of Manuka.
He was treated at Calvary Hospital for several fractures to the face before being released.
The alleged incident occurred at about 1am on Sunday as some of the Brumbies players spent the evening celebrating teammate Jeremy Paul's engagement.
"We have since spoken to a complainant and he's provided us with some details," an Australian Federal Police spokesperson said.
"We're still following up some issues and investigations are continuing."
Charges have not been laid.
Smith, 22, was drinking at the nightclub in Franklin Street with some teammates and his long-time girlfriend Louisa.
It's believed the altercation took place after the man made an inappropriate gesture toward her.
The Brumbies refused to comment on the incident, other than saying their own investigation was continuing.
