Bulldogs fear sponsors pulling out
Bulldogs chief executive Steve Mortimer said he feared for the NRL club's future if the sex scandal drove away its sponsors.
The Bulldogs have only lost one sponsor - Bluescope Lysaght - thus far as a result of the sexual assault allegations arising out of events at Coffs Harbour two weeks ago.
However, several backers, including major sponsor Mitsubishi Electric, are holding fire until the police complete their investigation.
"If we lost all our sponsors I'd be very worried about the viability of the club," Mortimer said.
"I am preying and hoping that won't happen.
"I believe, we believe, that we'll have no case to answer.
"Mitsubishi Electric have been great. I have great faith in their strength."
The Bulldogs also have the spectre of a heavy fine from the NRL hanging over their head, with chief executive David Gallop revealing the club could be docked anything up to $1 million.
The NRL elected against taking any action against the embattled club on Friday for fear of prejudicing the police investigation.
However, the league is almost certain to take action at the close of the police inquiries.
