More RWC tickets on offer
Australian rugby fans will have an 11th-hour chance to gain seats to Rugby World Cup pool matches on Wednesday.
The International Rugby Board has made a final release of unsold overseas pool tickets to the Australian Rugby Union, including some for the Wallabies-Argentina tournament opener on October 10.
More than 2000 tickets will be available for home fans to the opening night at Sydney's Telstra Stadium which is tipped to be the first of six sell-outs at the 83,000-seat Olympic Stadium.
More than 1.75 million tickets have been sold to the 48 matches in the six-week tournament with organisers predicting the bulk of matches to be sold out.
RWC head of marketing Shane Harmon said 28 of the 33 matches played in the traditional rugby states, NSW and Queensland, would have capacity crowds.
Numbers of tickets available for each match will be released on www.rugby2003.com.au on Tuesday after 6pm.
ARU managing director John O'Neill was well pleased with the domestic and international response, with early analysis showing 60,000 fans travelling from overseas.
That compares favourably with figures which showed 60,000-75,000 foreigners arriving in Australia on commercial packages for the 2000 Olympics.
"The response to date has been overwhelming," he said.
"You can really sense the excitement building as October 10th draws closer."
