Melbourne Park set to heat up

There are no Australians left in the Australian Open singles draw, but that will not prevent the atmosphere reaching fever pitch at Rod Laver Arena on Tuesday night.

Croatian Ivan Ljubicic and Cypriot Marcos Baghdatis meet in what promises to be a spectacular quarter-final contest.

Both have progressed to the last eight with a flashy array of shots and the help of passionate supporter bases, with Melbourne's Croatian and Greek communities set to come out in force again on Tuesday night.

It is an atmosphere that Ljubicic, the seventh seed, says will have him drawing on his experience of guiding Croatia to its first ever Davis Cup win last year.

"I think I have some experience with Davis Cup now so I know how to cope with that," he said of the expected crowd theatrics.

Baghdatis, who beat second seed Andy Roddick in the fourth round, said he had had to advise his own exuberant band of supporters to settle down, as they were more used to being part of football crowds than being courtside.

"When I spoke to them, I told them a bit of the rules and I told them to calm down, no swearing and stuff and it's getting better," he said.

"It's good for them, good for tennis and good for me."

That match will be preceded on Rod Laver Arena by a women's quarter-final, pitting world No.1 Lindsay Davenport against eighth seed Justine Henin-Hardenne.

The day session features an all-Russian clash between Maria Sharapova and Nadia Petrova.

And flashy unseeded Frenchman Fabrice Santoro comes up against consistent Argentinian fourth seed David Nalbandian.
