Haas continues hot form in Melbourne
In-form German Tommy Haas cruised into the third round of the Australian Open with a thumping 6-0 6-1 6-2 win over American Paul Goldstein.
Haas wrapped up victory in just 76 minutes to continue his brilliant start to the new season.
"There were a few games that were pretty solid but overall I had to make sure I kept winning the big points and I just played a solid match today," Haas told a news conference.
Twice a former Australian Open semi-finalist, Haas upset world number one Roger Federer in the Kooyong Classic last week and reached the final against big-serving American Andy Roddick. He could play Federer again in the fourth round of the Open.
The 27-year-old German's form in the first two rounds at Melbourne Park has been exhilarating, thrashing 14th seed Richard Gasquet in straight sets before doing the same to Goldstein.
Haas's next opponent is Australian wildcard Peter Luczak who beat 24th seed Olivier Rochus of Belgium 6-7 6-4 6-1 6-7 6-1 to match his best performance at a grand slam.
