Hewitt into US Open quarter-finals
Lleyton Hewitt has continued his red-hot run to reach his fifth straight US Open quarter-final at Flushing Meadows.
Australia's 2001 champion obliterated unseeded Slovak Karol Beck 6-4 6-2 6-2 in one hour and 40 minutes to book a meeting on Thursday with either German comeback merchant Tommy Haas or rising Czech Tomas Berdych.
Hewitt's dominant victory over Beck was his 14th successive win and the 23-year-old fourth seed is the only player in the tournament to reach the last eight without dropping a set.
Hewitt slowly warmed to the task, taking until the ninth game to break Beck before serving out the opening set after 36 minutes inside New York's Arthur Ashe Stadium.
He broke the Slovakian world No.72 twice more in the second set to blow the match wide open.
There was no letting up in the third as Hewitt raced through it as though he had an important lunch date in Manhattan.
Hewitt, coming off back-to-back titles at Washington and Long Island, now stands within one win of a likely semi-final showdown with defending champion Andy Roddick.
Roddick, the second seed behind world No.1 Roger Federer, was due to play his fourth-round match against Spanish 18th seed Tommy Robredo.
