Ayres stones the Crows after loss
Adelaide coach Gary Ayres has blasted his team for a lack of desire in the 10-point AFL loss to the Kangaroos at AAMI Stadium.
The Kangaroos won 9.20 (74) to 10.4 (64) in soggy conditions, showing far greater resolve than Adelaide despite having much less to play for.
The Crows' lack of endeavour left coach Gary Ayres fuming, the loss causing them to drop from second place on the ladder with the possibility of slipping further with an extremely tough match against Port Adelaide next week.
"That was pretty poor, I don't think there are too many other words you can use," Ayres said.
"There were very few (Adelaide) players playing the game."
He said his team wasted a great chance to set up a good finals position.
"The most disappointing aspect is when you don't believe those chances are worth achieving and I think that's the most disappointing thing that comes out of the day, that was a genuine opportunity," he said.
"We had an absolutely golden opportunity to stay second and it looks like we didn't want it badly enough."
The Roos, by contrast, had little to play for other than pride.
But they still dominated the match by attacking the ball and their opponents with fervour, with only atrocious kicking for goal stopping them from thrashing the Crows.
