West is best for record seventh time
Western Bulldogs midfielder Scott West created history on Friday night at the AFL cub, winning his seventh best-and-fairest award.West broke the Bulldogs record of Gary Dempsey when he won the Charles Sutton medal again.
Dempsey won the last of his six best-and-fairest awards in 1977.
West polled 160 votes to finish well clear of Daniel Cross on 138, while Lindsey Gilbee was third on 125.
It was West's third-straight Sutton medal.
Also, Collingwood defender James Clement and Adelaide midfielder Simon Goodwin were popular winners of their clubs' best player awards.
Clement won his second-straight Copeland Trophy with 48 votes, just two ahead of midfielder Brodie Holland.
Goodwin received his second Malcolm Blight medal, following his success in 2000.
He polled 195 votes and defender Nathan Bassett was next on 169.
West, Clement and Goodwin were all named in this year's All-Australian team.
