West equals Dempsey's record
Irrepressible onballer Scott West was elevated into Western Bulldogs' folklore after equalling club great Gary Dempsey's record of six club best and fairest awards in Melbourne.
The 29-year-old onballer won the 2004 Charles Sutton Medal in front of 800 guests at Moonee Valley race course after having been club champion in 1995, 1997, 1998, 2000 and 2003.
West, who finished equal fourth in this year's Brownlow Medal count, moved past the 250-game mark in 2004 in one of his finest seasons.
He polled 139 votes in the club's best and fairest count to win by 13 votes from ruckman Luke Darcy (126).
Brad Johnson finished third on 119 with Nathan Eagleton a further place back on 96.
West was selected for the All-Australian team for the third time this year after picking up a league-high 592 disposals at an average of just under 27 touches a match.
