Warriors keen to chat to Mundine
The New Zealand Warriors have expressed strong interest in signing former world boxing champion Anthony Mundine, who wants to resurrect his football career by returning to rugby league this year.
Warriors general manager Spiro Tsiros told AAP the NRL club had developed a close association with Mundine, who last played rugby league for St George Illawarra in 2000 before taking up boxing.
"There's no doubt he's a phenomenal athlete and a fair player when he was out there," said Tsiros.
"Would we be interested? We've got an association with Anthony through our boxing stable so by virtue of that I think there'll be some discussion at some point.
"It's definitely something we'd have a look at."
Super middleweight Mundine, 29, said he would return to rugby league following his world title fight against Danish boxer Mikel Kessler in Sydney on May 11.
"I want to come back the same way I went out, as being the Man," Mundine told Channel Nine.
"You can call it the resurrection of the Man. I'm back baby."
Mundine said he wanted to win an NRL premiership before reassessing his sporting future.
"I feel that I've got unfinished business in that area," he added.
