Hopoate sends message to fans
Sacked Manly winger John Hopoate has written an open letter to the NRL club's fans thanking them for their support and declaring he will leave rugby league with a clear mind.
Hopoate, sacked on Tuesday for the latest in a long string of indiscretions, contacted the club and asked if he could post a message on the club's website.
He said he held no bitterness towards Manly and revealed his disappointment at not being able to share his farewell with his children.
"My one wish left in my football career was to do a lap of honour after my final game with my children," Hopoate said.
"That now can't happen but not everything in life ends the way you want it.
"I bear no bitterness towards the club for terminating my contract - they had no choice to do what they did.
"The Manly club were fantastic in supporting me.
"I want to make it clear that I don't want to go to England to play and I don't want to play with any other club.
"My career is over and I have come to terms with that. My life now will revolve around my beautiful wife Brenda and my eight children."
Hopoate also used the letter to thank his mother Mele and the Manly fans.
