Manly continues to repair damage
Manly has posted an open letter on its website reassuring its disenchanted supporters the National Rugby League club will not "implode" in the wake of its embarrassing loss to the Wests Tigers.
But the ramifications from that defeat continued to seep through the club today, with injury and suspensions threatening to tear apart coach Peter Sharp's starting pack.
The Sea Eagles, who already apologised to their fans through Sharp last Sunday, were still in damage control following the 38-12 defeat at Brookvale Oval.
The club posted a statement on its website reassuring its supporters that everything would be alright.
"This football club is not going to implode or be forced into making rash decisions," the letter said.
"We have fought too hard to get our name, colours and birthplace back to let it go.
"But to return to the former lofty position is going to take time and rebuilding - we are aware of that."
The letter also said everyone involved at Manly considered the club on the way up and stressed the Sea Eagles were working to ensure their young side became more consistent and better prepared to handle the weekly pressure of the NRL.
"There will be glitches along the way but in the end it will be worthwhile," it said.
Chief executive Ian Thomson said the club was intent on reassuring its fans that it would do everything to regain their faith.
