Angry Arthurs out
Wayne Arthurs walked off centre court seething over a line call that he believed cost him the match against Germany's Florain Mayer at the Australian Men's Hardcourts.
With Mayer winning the first set and Arthurs claiming the second, the scene was set for a tight third set.
That was locked at 5-5 when Arthurs began to show signs of frustration and a close line call at 6-5 had him arguing with the linesman.
Mayer capitalised on Arthurs' frayed emotions and won the next three points to claim victory 6-4 3-6 7-5.
A clearly angry Arthurs left court glaring and swearing at the linesman.
He was still fuming at the press conference: "It's not a nice way to lose a match after two hours out there. I'm not blaming that particular point... yeah I am a little bit...."
Arthurs raw emotions were also on display late in the first set after some costly early errors.
Mayer broke serve twice and led 4-0. Arthurs finally registered at score at 4-1 but in the following game he lost his cool at 40-15, slamming the ball out of the arena after a missed shot.
With the crowd urging him on, Arthurs regained his composure and fought back to win the next three games and be 5-4 down. However, Mayer closed out the set 6-4.
The second set was even until Arthurs broke Mayer's serve and led 3-5. Two consecutive aces gave Arthurs the second set 3-6 and set up a the showdown.
