Cheika unimpressed with Randwick's win

Randwick beat Eastwood 35-22 to win the Tooheys New Cup with what winning coach Michael Cheika described as his team's worst performance of the year.

The enthralling battle to decide the NSW club rugby title was not over until Randwick replacement back Wise Kativerata scored off the final play of the year.

While many Eastwood fans left Aussie Stadium disgusted by some of referee Stuart Dickinson's decisions, the Galloping Greens deserved their title, having not allowed the Woods to cross their line.

Eastwood's only try came from a first half penalty try in the 31st minute, while Randwick crossed four times.

"We defended desperately and that signifies a team that wants to win," Cheika said.

"But we played terribly, worst of the year."

But while Cheika was not entirely happy with his team's performance, Randwick hooker Adam Freier was lost for words.

"I'm a bit overwhelmed," he said.

"We always knew it was going to be close, Eastwood did a great job and we expected that from them.

"Their forwards dominated and we gave away some silly penalties. But we came in with so much pressure on us, we were $1.15 premiership favourites, and we're not supposed to get beat."
