Eastwood poised for Leeds exit

Leeds' homesick New Zealand international Greg Eastwood is close to securing a return to the NRL with the Bulldogs.

The Rhinos transfer-listed the former Brisbane Broncos forward at an asking price of STG100,000 ($A167,000) earlier this year after he sought a release from the last two years of his three-year contract in a bid to return to his family in Australia.

The 23-year-old Eastwood had a season with the Bulldogs while he awaited clearance to join Leeds last year and is now poised to sign a three-year deal with them.

Bulldogs chief executive Todd Greenberg told the Sydney Sun-Herald the deal was all but complete.

"We've been working really hard in consultation with Leeds to try and get Greg Eastwood back to the Bulldogs in 2011 and we're certainly hopeful of seeing Greg back in the blue and white next year," he said.

"We're looking at a three-year deal and I would hope we will have it wrapped up before the end of September."

Greenberg is confident of persuading Leeds to release the player, revealing the clubs are looking to form a joint venture in which players could transfer between the clubs.

Eastwood, who was a member of the Kiwis' 2008 World Cup-winning team, won a premiership with Brisbane in 2006 and was in Leeds' Challenge Cup final team at Wembley last month.
