Cheika to face hearing over finals remark
Michael Cheika, the Australian coach of Stade Francais is to face a disciplinary hearing for remarks he allegedy made following last month's European Cup final defeat by Harlequins.
The first complaint against the former Leinster boss centres on comments he is alleged to have made during the halftime break to officials, with the second focusing on remarks said to have been made to a staff member of tournament organisers European Rugby Cup (ERC) after the funal whistle.
Paris-based Stade were unhappy with several decisions in a match they only lost 19-18 in Cardiff following a late Gonzalo Camacho try that was converted by All Black Nick Evans.
Cheika, speaking at a post-match press conference, said: "Once again we came undone due to the shortcomings of, you know. I don't think I should say it because I will only get in trouble."
The coach had a difficult first season at Stade, who failed to reach the French title playoffs and on Wednesday the club's owner, Max Guazzini, said they faced the prospect of bankruptcy after a planned investment into the team failed to materialise.
Cheika has been summoned to attend a hearing in Dublin on July 19, when his case will be heard by an independent three-man disciplinary committee.
