Echols left wary of Mundine's right
The Antwun Echols camp is wary of Anthony Mundine'sright hand heading into next Wednesday's super middleweight world title bout.
The two combatants met for the first time on Wednesday at a Sydney press conference which started with neither man saying much and ended with both firing comic one-liners.
Most of the pre-fight talk has focussed on the punching power of Echols who has scored 26 KOs in his 29 wins.
Mundine, who has notched 14 KOs in his 18 wins, is best known for his speed, but showed devastating one punch knock-out power in victories over Timo Masua, Guy Waters and Rogerio Cacciatore.
"I've been working hard on my defence, I've been working hard on surprising him in different ways, but he ain't the only one packing heat," MUndine said.
"You've seem me knock em out, I've knocked them out for minutes, so I know that I can punch and I know if I can hit him on the sweet spot that I will definitely hurt him."
After the press conference, Echols said he wasn't worried by Mundine's power or skills, but had taken note of a particular punch he had witnessed on tape.
"There's this punch where he rocks back and tries to throw a right hand, so we will just be watching that punch," Echols said.
His trainer Dan Birmingham claimed he had spotted flaws in Mundine's movement and defence, but also targeted the Australian's right hand as one of his main weapons.
"We're going to look out for his right hand, he's got a real nice right and we're going to try and do things to counter that," Birmingham said.
