Angwin's angst mars Blues' win
An injury to talented but troubled Carlton rookie Laurence Angwin marred the Blues' impressive 35-point AFL practice match win over Richmond at Optus Oval.
Angwin damaged his shoulder midway through the third quarter of the 19.17 (131) to 14.12 (96) win after falling awkwardly during a marking duel.
The 21-year-old, who was sentenced to 100 hours' community service by a court late last year for stealing from a teammate's house, had been outstanding until his injury.
He virtually pulled the Blues back into the match in the second quarter after they trailed by three goals at quarter-time, sparking a 40-point turnaround by the long break.
Angwin monstered Richmond's Aaron Fiora, kicking two goals and setting up another in a performance which must have had coach Denis Pagan seriously considering elevating him from the rookie list to the senior list.
Instead Angwin, who has already had two shoulder reconstructions, will nervously await scans on his latest injury.
Once Angwin departed, Richmond fought their way back into the match to snatch a two-point lead at the five-minute mark of the final quarter.
But Carlton, sparked by best-on-ground Scott Camporeale, kicked eight unanswered goals from that point on to steamroll the Tigers.
New VFL signing Adrian Deluca impressed up forward with three goals, with Brad Fisher also grabbing three.
Not even a six-goal haul from Matthew Richardson was enough for Richmond, which looked good in patches and abysmal in others.
