Irate Leeds fans slam Kewell
Leeds United fans were scathing about Harry Kewell's expected move to Liverpool after the Socceroo revealed he had been in talks with a club since February.
Kewell was expected to announce his move in a pre-recorded interview on the Nine Network on Tuesday night but a last-minute hitch in negotiations meant it could not be screened in full.
But his claim - in snippets of the interview already shown - that he had been talking to the unnamed club for six months angered fans.
Under Football Association rules, rival clubs are not supposed to approach players without formal permission.
Arsenal was the only club to formally approach Leeds United about the Australian midfielder.
"I've been wondering how that can happen under the rules of the FA," Leeds United Fans Association member Ray Fell said.
"Clubs are supposed to be approached first, let the player know an approach has been made and let the negotiations take place from there.
"But to be told by a player that he's been in talks with a club for six months explains perhaps some of the performances we've had from time to time."
Kewell is understood to have agreed to a five-year, STG60,000 ($A146,400)-a-week deal with Liverpool, ending almost eight years with Leeds.
"If he's been talking to Liverpool, maybe he decided a long time ago," John Bradley from local radio station Radio Aire said.
