Rafter to play Wednesday night
Australian tennis great Pat Rafter is likely to make his eagerly-anticipated comeback on Wednesday night at Memorial Drive.
Rafter, who turned 31 last week, will play doubles with fellow Queenslander Josh Eagle at the AAPT championships as he seeks practice ahead of an exhibition match against Swede Mats Wilander in Townsville next month.
Rafter arrives in Adelaide on Tuesday and tournament director Colin Stubbs said he planned to schedule his match against Vincent Spadea and Mark Merklein the following evening.
Only inclement weather and a backlog of matches could change those plans.
Rafter's last official match was in Australia's Davis Cup final loss to France in December 2001.
Rafter, a two-time US Open champion, dual Wimbledon finalist and former world No.1, has ruled out making a competitive return to singles play on the ATP Tour.
