Hockeyroos down Britain to take series
The Australian women's hockey team has continued its solid preparation for the Beijing Olympics, defeating Great Britain 2-0 to take out the five Test series.
What started as a tight affair ended measurably in the Hockeyroos' favour, classy finishing around goal by the home team proving the difference.
After several forward attempts the Hockeyroos eventually made their way onto the scoreboard after a slick pass from Casey Eastham found Teneal Attard who then registered Australia's first goal after 16 minutes.
Both teams continued to press for goals in the first half but tight work from local favourite Angie Lambert saw the Hockeyroos score sheet remain clean at halftime.
The second half began at a fast pace, with Great Britain looking to equalise early after earning a penalty corner.
But the Hockeyroos defenders held firm and the ball was quickly moved to the other end where Hope Munro put the Australians further in front in the 43rd minute after a clever trap outsmarted the goalkeeper.
The Hockeyroos almost added to their goal tally on several occasions during the second half but the two goals proved to be enough.
The win gives Australia an unassailable 3-0 lead in the series.
The fourth match of the series is this Saturday in Toowoomba with the final match on the Gold Coast on Sunday.
