Jaslyn making her own way in tennis
Once best known as "Lleyton's little sister", Jaslyn Hewitt is feeling less pressure as she makes her own way in professional tennis.
Jaslyn is among 30 players who has started a 10-day camp at Melbourne Park, ahead of a cut-throat tournament, where the men's and women's winners will receive wildcard entries into the Australian Open.
She went into the camp with solid form and is aiming for a berth in the main Open draw next January, after not making it through this year's qualifying rounds.
"In the last few years it hasn't been a problem, really," she said of comparisons to her world No.3 brother.
"When I was in the juniors then I felt there was a lot more pressure on me, but now I think a lot of it has died off.
"I am in my early 20s now and I don't think people have such high expectations for what I am doing.
"Our main goal (is) to play in the Australian Open, I think everyone dreams of that. I think we are all looking forward to the playoff at the end of the week."
Her boyfriend, world No.12 Joachim Johansson, was also at the camp and Hewitt said he had been a major reason why she felt her game had come along this year.
"I have to thank `Pim Pim' a lot because he has been helping me over the last year, and his father. I have been spending a lot of time in Sweden and if it wasn't for them, I haven't really had much of a coach in Australia, so it's really been up to them and their help to me that has helped me improve," she said.
While Tennis Australia has come under plenty of criticism lately, particularly for player development, camp organiser Peter McNamara said there was still a lot right with the game in this country.
