Germany down Kookaburras 1-0 in final
Germany won the Champions Trophy for a record ninth time as they bounced back from a 5-0 loss to Australia on Saturday to beat the Kookaburras 1-0 in Sunday night's final in Kuala Lumpur.
A fifth-minute penalty corner goal from captain Timo Wess secured the trophy for Germany, who had shared the previous record of eight tournament wins with Australia and the Netherlands.
It was just the ninth goal the Kookaburras had conceded in eight games.
While their defence was the tightest in the eight-team tournament, Australia again struggled to convert their set-piece and open-field opportunities.
Australia, who had converted just four out of 33 penalty corner attempts through their seven round-robin games, missed three more on Sunday night.
The Kookaburras were down a man for a significant period of the game after Nathan Eglington was sin-binned for an illegal first half tackle.
Germany had the better of the first-half exchanges, though Australia threatened late in the half.
After the break, Australia did most of the attacking and finished with more shots on goal, but couldn't manufacture an equaliser.
