Dutch down Kookaburras
Australia failed to wrap up a Dutch double in hockey, losing 4-2 to host nation the Netherlands in the men's Champions Trophy final.
The Kookaburras twice came from behind against the Dutch in the match in Amstelveen, near Amsterdam.
But player of the tournament Teun de Nooiyer then stepped up to put his side 3-2 ahead, before sealing a second straight Champions Trophy victory six minutes later.
It was Australia's second silver medal in three years in the tournament and came the day after the Hockeyroos beat the Netherlands 2-1 in the women's Four Nations Cup final in Amsterdam.
But the Kookaburras, who have now left for home, can take consolation from having unearthed a new star in striker Grant Schubert.
The 23-year-old South Australian, on his first tour, netted nine goals to earn the tournament's most promising player award.
Matthijs Brouwer put the Dutch ahead by deflecting a 24th minute free hit by captain Jeroen Delmee past Aussie goalkeeper Mark Hickman.
Australia levelled five minutes later through Craig Victory, but the defending champions responded less than a minute later when Piet-Hein Geeris's superb reverse stick shot found goal off the inside of a post.
Although Australia finished with an overall corner advantage of 8-1, not enough was made from set-piece drills.
Despite being down to ten men after Matthew Wells was yellow-carded for a mistimed tackle, Troy Elder finally scored from the a seventh attempt in the 60th minute to level at 2-2.
