Kookaburras hit Germany for six
Australia rewrote the record books with their highest ever 6-1 score againstGermany's young development team in the men's Champions Trophy hockey tournament.
Their previous best result was a 4-0 defeat of Germany at the Champions Trophy in Kuala Lumpur in 1993.
In the first 20 minutes Australia scored three times through Michael McCann, Grant Schubert and Adam Commens before Germany entered Australia's defensive half with possession. McCann scored again immediately after Germany's first possession in Australia's half.
Germany conceded too many unforced errors of turnovers of possession, missed tackles and simple passes straight to an Australian stick to be competitive against an Australian side which punished each mistake.
Germany started to find a rhythm of sorts in the last 15 minutes of the first half and stemmed the onslaught of goals for the remainder of the half.
Christian Schulte was the only outstanding player for Germany, saving seven hot shots in the first half and three in the second.
Australia pressed Germany again in the second half earning a second goal to Grant Schubert and penalty corner goal to Aaron Hopkins for Australia to lead 6-0 with 15 minutes to play.
Alexander Sahmel converted Germany's only penalty corner to give Germany a tiny piece of respectability.
"This is the sort of result you have to expect with a young development team," said German coach Bernhard Peters.
"The Australian's applied strong pressure in the first half and there was high mental stress level on my players all through the first half as they could not play easy man-to-man passes because the Australians applied too much pressure to them."
