Connolly hails Freo's win over Brisbane
Fremantle coach Chris Connolly labelled his AFL team's thrilling three-point win over reigning premiers Brisbane as the Dockers' best victory during his tenure.
The port club stormed home at Subiaco Oval kicking 4.7 to 1.4 in the final term to record the heart-stopping 10.15 (75) to 10.12 (72) result in blustery conditions.
The Lions had the Dockers' measure almost the entire match but the home side displayed its new-found resilience to move within three wins of a debut finals appearance.
The Dockers ploughed to a halt in the same round last year, with Port Adelaide signalling the end of Freo's season with an 84-point belting in Perth.
Fremantle's come-from-behind win though ensured no interstate team has taken four points away from Fortress Subiaco this season.
Second-year coach Connolly said the victory was a great moment for the club which made its AFL debut in 1995.
"Yeah probably, in the context that Brisbane have made it well known how desperate they are to win the premiership this year," he said.
"To be four goals down at one stage and their experience players were starting to really take aggressive risks, and it could have blown out, but we hung in there in the end.
"It was a terrific win. To consider we had 15 players (aged) under 23 while Brisbane had about 1,260 more games experience ... it was just a great moment for the club."
The loss leaves the Lions in some danger of losing touch with frontrunners Port Adelaide and West Coast.
