Connolly questions Farmer's antics
Fremantle coach Chris Connolly admits he has spoken to flamboyant AFL forward Jeff Farmer about his on-field antics.
Farmer has been baiting and earning the ire of opposition crowds in recent weeks.
It was most noticeable against Collingwood in round four when he remonstrated with Magpie fans throughout the Dockers' 34-point win, while he ran towards Eagles fans to celebrate after kicking three goals in the western derby last week.
Connolly went so far as to compare Farmer with basketball great Dennis Rodman, who was often in trouble with NBA authorities but was also a winner, ending his career with five championship rings.
"I think the Collingwood thing was a bit over the top, he felt that, mainly that," Connolly said.
"We've discussed what's acceptable and what's unacceptable, but I'm not going to stop Jeff Farmer playing his best footy.
"Compared to a guy like Dennis Rodman in basketball, he's pretty harmless.
"But having said that Luc Longley said if he was ever going into a big game Dennis would be the first guy he'd want right beside him and we feel that with Jeff."
Connolly concedes the situation is a difficult one for him to confront as the mercurial Farmer often plays his best football when showing his emotion.
He currently tops Fremantle's goal-kicking list with 11 for the year, but has also repeatedly gone missing during matches this season.
