Fremantle thrash Lions
Having easily taken the scalp of three-time AFL premier Brisbane, the Fremantle Dockers are ready to show-case their skills on a national stage when they tackle Essendon next Friday night.
The Dockers ran away from the Lions, kicking five majors in every term to win 20.17 (137) to 11.12 (78) at Subiaco.
Even against a team hit by injury and suspension, it was an impressive performance and sets up a classic clash against the Bombers.
Essendon thrashed Fremantle in their inaugural final at Subiaco Oval last year, showing coach Chris Connolly and his young side that they still had a way to go before they could consider themselves realistic premiership contenders.
Connolly said the Friday night game was an ideal chance to promote the ever-improving WA club and hoped it would be a sign of things to come.
"In some ways next week is bigger off the field for us than on it," he said.
"It is about the Fremantle football club being in the lounge room of every house in Australia.
"It has become a part of Australian culture, watching the footy on a Friday night.
"You could have 15th playing 16th in Round 22 and everyone is still lined up to watch the footy.
"We haven't had that opportunity in the past.
