Freo ignores horror MCG record
Fremantle will try to ignore a substantial chunk of AFL history before Sunday's AFL match against Richmond at the MCG.
And for good reason.
The Dockers, dubbed the AFL road "shockers", have won just 12 times from 78 interstate matches since entering the league in 1995.
However, its record on the MCG is, somehow, much worse with only one victory from 14 visits to the home of Australian Rules.
Even likeable Dockers coach Chris Connolly became a little testy with the inevitable line of questioning about the team's woeful form away from home.
He didn't need reminding the last time Fremantle won interstate he was an assistant in the loser's box at the Hawks in round 18, 2001.
It was the week after Hawthorn coach Peter Schwab had taken a week off because of a heart complaint.
While Connolly's ticker is in good nick, even his good humour will be tested if his mob can't pull off a breakthrough win before the midpoint of the season.
Connolly said any comparisons between his playing group and Fremantle's away record was unfair.
But his playing list hasn't changed that much since last year when the port club failed to win across the Nullarbor with some performances bordering on diabolical.
