Arabian mare dies of horse flu
An Arabian horse has died from equine flu at a stable west of Brisbane.
Peter Toft, a breeder and exporter of Arab performance horses, said hundreds of animals at his Marburg property were ill with the flu.
A mare and her unborn foal, just a week away from delivery, had had to be put down after developing complications as a result of the virus, he said.
It follows the death of racehorse Tip of the Iceberg, who was put down in early September at Moonbi, near Tamworth in northwestern NSW.
