Horse flu vaccines to arrive in Qld
Queensland Racing is expecting to receive its first vials of equine flu vaccine late on Friday, but they will not be administered to horse populations until Saturday.
About 20,000 vials of the vaccine were due to arrive in Australia late on Thursday and Queensland has been allocated about 9,000 vials out of the shipment.
A Queensland Racing Limited (QRL) spokeswoman indicated 5,500 vials were expected to arrive in the state this evening.
The vaccination program is expected to begin on Saturday and QRL chairman Bob Bentley has indicated horse population's on the Gold and Sunshine Coasts, and at Toowoomba and Ipswich, would have priority.
Meanwhile, police charged a 34-year-old man with breaching the state horse movement standstill.
The man from Tara, 330km west of Brisbane, will face Chinchilla Magistrates Court next month on a charge of moving a horse without a permit on September 21.
He is the second man to be charged with the offence since a standstill was put in place on August 25.
