Makybe Diva aims for French triumph
Makybe Diva's next big assignment will be the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe in Paris next year.
After re-writing Australian racing history with two Melbourne Cups and a Sydney Cup in between, she's off to contest the Arc in October.
Trainer Lee Freedman, who has won the Melbourne Cup four times, revealed his long-held ambition to win the northern hemisphere's equivalent and believes he has the horse who could do it.
"It's been a dream of mine to race a horse in the Arc but I've never had one good enough," Freedman said after Tuesday's win.
"But this mare is right out of the box. She's the perfect horse for a race like the Arc."
Australians splurged a record $126 million on the TAB on the Cup, and perhaps as much again through office sweeps and internet betting.
And while bookmakers cried poor after Makybe Diva was heavily backed into 5-2 favouritism, there appears little respite for them in Thursday's Crown Oaks.
Hollow Bullet at $2.50 and Storm Alert at $3 are standouts in a seven-horse field.
