Footballers charged after 2006 pub brawl
Three-time AFL premiership captain and AFL coaching aspirant Michael Voss is one of four footballers who will face assault charges after a brawl in a St Kilda pub last year.
Voss, along with St Kilda spearhead Fraser Gehrig and Brisbane Bears Simon Black, are among six men charged after a brawl that spilled out on to the footpath of the Prince of Wales hotel on grand final eve last September.
The Herald Sun said Voss will face Melbourne Magistrates Court on August 7 on a charge of unlawful assault.
Footage of the brawl was being shown on television newscasts on Tuesday night.
Gehrig faces a charge of unlawfully assaulting a woman and Black is charged with recklessly causing injury and assault by kicking.
Voss said on Tuesday that he remains comfortable with his side of the story.
He told Southern Cross Broadcasting that the facts had never been in dispute but he wanted to justify his actions.
"I just want to have a crack at it, get in there and prove what you need to prove and get it over and done with," Voss said.
Former St Kilda player Steve Lawrence faces charges of intentionally causing injury, recklessly causing injury and two counts of unlawful assault.
