Qld rugby league brawlers disciplined
Brisbane and North Queensland officials will dress down players involved in an all-in brawl in the Toyota Cup match in Townsville on Friday night.
Eight players - three from Brisbane and five from the Cowboys - were slapped with contrary conduct charges on Monday ranging in gradings from one to three.
The Under-20s clash erupted in the 75th minute into a vicious punch up lasting a few minutes.
Brisbane back-rower Michael Spence, who reacted to a high tackle, copped the heaviest charge - a grade three offence carrying 325 points which would be reduced to 243 points with an early guilty plea.
Of the five Cowboys charged, Blackwater Crushers halfback Tom Humble was the hardest hit with a grade two charge worth 225 points, discounted to 188 with an early guilty plea.
The other players charged were Andrew McCullough, and Mitchell Dodds from Brisbane and Cowboys Chris Reisen, Ryan Carr, Shaun Maloney, Sam Bowie.
Onlookers described the brawl in which players threw several haymakers as a "good old fashioned stink".
"We certainly don't condone that behaviour and it was out of character for the boys," said Brisbane football manager Peter Nolan.
"Obviously the officials have taken a dim view of it and we'll be speaking to all the players and reminding them of what is expected from them.
"I've already spoken to Michael (Spence) and will decide tomorrow what action to take in regard to all the charges."
Cowboys chief executive Peter Parr said the club would definitely speak to the players involved in the brawl.
"You don't have five players charged and not address it, that would be very poor on our behalf," Parr told AAP.
"We don't condone and we'll be speaking to them but I'd hate to see people jump on the bandwagon about it because it's not immune to just that one game, it's been 100 years."
