Djokovic bundles Hewitt out of Wimbledon
Lleyton Hewitt's 2007 Wimbledon campaign ended in a fourth-round loss to Serbian No.4 seed Novak Djokovic.
Australia's last player in the singles draw fought back from two-sets-to-love down to win the third set, but it was not enough as Djokovic prevailed 7-6 (10-8) 7-6 (7-2) 4-6 7-6 (7-5) in a match lasting four hours and 11 minutes.
The first-set tiebreak was extremely tight and featured some mammoth rallies before Hewitt sent a forehand long to give the Serb the lead after 58 minutes.
Djokovic completely dominated the second-set tiebreak, racing to a 4-0 lead and leaping in the air as he clinched the set, which lasted even longer than the first at more than an hour.
The rain which has plagued the tournament returned fleetingly, causing a brief interruption at 1-1 in the third set.
When play resumed, Hewitt saved a break point in the sixth game with a cross-court forehand that beat Djokovic as he slipped over on the baseline, legs splayed.
Djokovic appeared hurt and stayed on the ground for some time before continuing.
After Hewitt won the third set, Djokovic immediately took a medical time out, receiving treatment on the right side of his lower back.
Djokovic won the first point of the fourth-set tiebreak when he successfully challenged an out call and raced to a 4-0 lead when Hewitt slipped, appearing to hurt his right ankle.
The Australian carried on, wining the next point, but Djokovic sealed victory when Hewitt netted a backhand.
