Wedau released by A-League's Roar
Queensland Roar's German import Marcus Wedau has been released from the remaining year of his contract by the A-League club on compassionate grounds.
Wedau, 31, will return to Germany to be with his pregnant partner who is expecting their first child in October.
"It's important to me that I am supportive to my partner both during the lead-up to the birth of our child and the period immediately afterwards," he said.
"I am naturally disappointed to leave as I was hoping to force my way into the Queensland Roar team this season following a frustrating time with injuries last year.
"I've felt fitter and stronger during this pre-season but in life some things have to come before football.
"It is better for the team and better for me and my partner if I leave the club before the season gets any closer."
The release takes effect immediately and Wedau will depart Australia this weekend.
"This is an important time for any new family," Roar coach Frank Farina said.
"He will be the first to admit that last season didn't go well for him, but he was looking very sharp at training recently and was determined to have a good year.
"I'm sure he will find a new club in Germany and he leaves with our very best wishes."
Wedau had more than 10 years experience in the German Bundesliga before being brought over by former Roar coach Miron Bleiberg in 2006.
The midfielder's injury-affected Roar stint featured 10 games, six as a starter.
