Roar dominates in Glory scoreless draw
Queensland strikers Alex Brosque and Michael Baird bamboozled Perth but failed to land the knock-out punch in Saturday night's scoreless A-League draw at Suncorp Stadium.
Brosque and Baird dominated throughout the contest but were prevented from snatching the three points for the Roar with wayward shooting and a superb performance from Glory goalkeeper Jason Petkovic.
While the crowd of 13,685 saw Queensland become the first A-League club to welcome over 100,000 supporters this season, it was yet another disappointing outcome for the attack-minded Roar who squandered three golden opportunities either side of halftime.
Brosque had the first chance to break the deadlock but his delivery towards goal in first half injury time was miraculously stopped by Petkovic's left foot.
More frustration was to come after the break with two more attacking raids leaving the home fans in disbelief.
Baird was presented with a stunning chance by Brosque just seconds after the restart of play but Petkovic once again foiled the movement with a desperate sliding safe.
Brosque, who leads the league in shots on goal, managed to find his teammate open after picking the defence apart with a piercing pass before Baird set up the next opportunity for midfielder Matt McKay a minute later.
Baird's initial strike at goal was saved by the foot of a desperate Perth defender but the ball landed at the mercy of an open McKay whose regulation shot hit the side netting.
Baird was again left in despair with less than 10 minutes remaining when his one-on-one showdown with Petkovic finished with the ball taking a 90 degree turn away from goal.
A sizzling strike by Uruguayan import Osvaldo Carro that struck the woodwork on the top of the goal only added to Roar coach Miron Bleiberg's frustration with Queensland taking pot shots for the rest of the game.
