Brosque leaves Roar to join Sydney FC

Sydney FC has reportedly recruited striker Alex Brosque from Queensland Roar to bolster its push for the A-League finals.

Coach Pierre Littbarski signed the attacking midfielder as a potential strike partner for Dwight Yorke, Sky News reported.

Brosque has been struggling to find the net for the Roar, scoring only three times in 15 games - although he is Queensland's joint top-scorer with that tally.

The 22-year-old would have been fighting for his starting spot with the Roar's new Brazilian signing Reinaldo when the A-League cranks back into life in the New Year after a three-week break.

But Brosque will have his work cut out to get game time in his new blue shirt with in-form Sasho Petrovski, David Zdrilic and John Buonavoglia vying every week to join Yorke up front.

Littbarski will be hoping that Brosque, who likes to play from deep positions, can give Sydney FC the kind of attacking options that guest signing Kazuyoshi Miura gave the club during his short stint.

Japanese megastar Miura played his final game for Sydney in last week's 2-1 fifth/sixth place playoff win over African champions Al Ahly in the Club World Championships in Tokyo.

An added reason for Brosque, who has played for the Socceroos at both youth and senior levels, deciding to move was that he wanted to be closer to his family, Sky reported.

The young striker will have a golden chance to prove himself when Sydney plays its next game on December 30 against A-League cellar-dwellers New Zealand Knights - they have conceded 34 goals this season.

Sydney is second on the ladder, five points behind Adelaide United with only six games remaining before the finals.
