Ogdenovski signs with Adelaide United
Adelaide United have made good on their promise to shore up a suspect A-League defence by signing Queensland Roar centre-half Sasa Ogdenovski for two years.
Ogdenovski, 28, played a key role in Queensland's emergence as one of the teams of the season, and drove home a penalty for the Roar in their semi-final victory over Sydney FC.
United's opportunity to play Asian Champions League football this year has been a significant bargaining chip for the Reds in their pursuit of Ogdenovski.
"With Queensland we had two chances to qualify for the Champions League, one against Adelaide in the final round and last weekend against Newcastle and we failed at both so it's disappointing but I'm sure Queensland will move on from it and so will I," Ogdenovski said.
"If I get the chance to play in the AFC Champions League with Adelaide it would be a great experience, I watched Adelaide and Sydney in it last year and I'm sure Adelaide have learnt from the experience and hopefully the club can make it through to the knockout stage."
Adelaide will call on Ogdenovski to bolster a defence that suffered from the loss of club captain Michael Valkanis for the season with a serious knee injury, while defensive playmaker Ang Costanzo struggled with niggles and Olyroo Robert Cornthwaite has not yet added consistency to his undoubted potential.
"Sasa had a tremendous season for the Queensland Roar and he's going to add a lot of experience, aggression and strength in a very key area for us," Reds coach Aurelio Vidmar said.
"He's a winner and doesn't like to get beaten and they are great attributes to have."
Ogdenovski is expected to begin training with Adelaide next week and it is hoped he will be eligible for their first ACL fixture on March 12 against the Pohang Steelers in South Korea.
