Wendell Sailor to join Dragons: report
St George Illawarra is set to sign fallen rugby union star Wendell Sailor.
According to reports in The Australian newspaper, the 32-year-old will sign with the Dragons after his drug ban ends in May next year.
Sailor, a dual international who switched to rugby from rugby league in 2002, had received a two-year ban after testing positive to cocaine following a Waratahs Super 14 game in April 2006.
Sources told the newspaper that the Dragons were looking at playing the winger as a second rower.
NRL chief executive David Gallop said the league would not stand in the way of any club wanting to sign the former Brisbane Bronco.
"If a club comes to us with a contract we would consider whether any special conditions needed to be imposed at the time but as a general proposition once he has served his suspension we would be agreeable to him playing again," Gallop said.
"He's done the crime and he's done the time."
