Spain starts Davis Cup war of words
Spain launched a pointed psychological assault on Australia ahead of next week's Davis Cup final.
Spanish captain Jordi Arrese claimed Australia would be under massive pressure to win because of its heavy favouritism.
And he warned Spain's ace Juan Carlos Ferrero would adapt quickly to the grass courts, despite delaying his arrival in Australia.
Spain had earlier questioned how well prepared Australian star Lleyton Hewitt would be because if his lack of recent match practice.
But Australian coach Wally Masur said later he had never seen Hewitt so fit and sharp before a Davis Cup tie.
Arrese intimated the Australian players had everything to lose because of the weight of public expectation on them.
"Australia has a very good team but first we must wait and see how Hewitt is playing after such a long time playing without a high level of competition," Arrese said.
"Also (Mark) Philippoussis, the last times he has always had some troubles.
"Australia is the big favourite but that means also they will have a lot of pressure on them.
"It will be a big pressure on the Australians, not only playing at home but also because of playing on a surface which makes them even more favourites."
