El Masri wants more wins, not milestones
Bulldogs winger Hazem El Masri has notched up yet another career milestone, but he is more excited about the possibility of achieving a bigger goal later this month - being selected for the NSW State of Origin side.
A modest El Masri was so concerned about winning the game that he didn't realise he'd scored his 1,900th point in the Bulldogs' 30-16 NRL victory over Newcastle at Telstra Stadium.
El Masri's second of five conversions made him only the sixth player to have reached the milestone in the history of top-flight rugby league - behind Andrew Johns, Jason Taylor, Daryl Halligan, Mick Cronin and Graham Eadie.
But the winger, who also scored a try for the Dogs in the first minute of the second half, had been too busy to realise his achievement.
"I didn't even know that - that's good," El Masri told AAP after the game.
"It's a milestone and a good achievement. I guess I'm just sort of used to it now and keep doing it over the years.
"It's always good - another milestone but the main thing is that we got a win."
Fresh from a win playing for City against Country on Thursday night, El Masri was unsure if the solid performance would bring him within reach of his dream of donning a NSW jersey later this month.
"I've grown up as a kid and always watched the State of Origin - it's something that you always strived to do as a player," he said.
"Thank God I've accomplished a lot of things, but State of Origin is one thing that's been out of my reach, so hopefully I'll have a chance to do that.
"If they need me I'm more than happy to (play), if they don't, then good luck to them."
The NSW State of Origin team will be announced on May 15 before the first game in Brisbane on May 23.
