Eagles' Rosa pushes for AFL prelim berth
West Coast coach John Worsfold has left the door ajar for midfielder Matt Rosa to make a shock AFL return in Saturday's preliminary final against Geelong at the MCG.
Rosa hasn't played since injuring his knee against Richmond in round 20, but will join the team's main training session on Wednesday afternoon in a bid to prove his fitness.
The 24-year-old had been in career-best form before injury struck, and Worsfold said he would seriously consider handing Rosa a recall ifhe proved beyond a doubt he was over the knee problem.
"There won't be any element of risk if he gets through his fitness regime, so it's really just around whether someone who hasn't played for a number of weeks is right to come in," Worsfold said on Wednesday.
"And that's around the importance to the side and whether we think his touch is good enough coming in first up, which I personally would be confident it would be."
Should Rosa earn a recall, fellow midfielders Chris Masten and Patrick McGinnity could find themselves under the selection pump.
Along with Rosa, Ash Smith and Brad Ebert are other players desperately trying to push their way back into the side.
Worsfold said Josh Kennedy (face), Mark LeCras (ankle/knee) and Eric Mackenzie (foot) would overcome minor injury concerns to tackle Geelong, who will recall Joel Corey if the midfielder proves he has overcome a groin complaint.
