Wests' Tigers enjoy game of Aussie Rules
The code war for Sydney's west took an unusual twist on Monday as Wests Tigers NRL players enjoyed a game of Australian Rules.
Watched by a media contingent ready to discuss the Tigers' surge up the NRL ladder, veteran coach Tim Sheens' team had a spirited go at the rival code to round out their training session at Concord Oval.
League fans needn't worry.
"It's a bit of fun on a Monday morning which is good," said lock Chris Heighington.
"I think you have to cover around three k's (kilometres) and then you get to go in, so everyone was running around."
Speedster Mitch Brown also enjoyed the variety in training and he reckoned league was well-placed to maintain its dominance in the face of the AFL's push into western Sydney.
"It's obviously different from playing rugby league. There's a lot more running involved and I guess a little bit more niggle with the boys playing that sport," he said.
"We only play for a bit fun.
"I don't think there's too much competition with western suburbs teams with the rugby league, it's pretty strong out there."
