Trophies follow Sattler after Tigers win
Defying the odds must now seem commonplace for rugby league battler Scott Sattler.
First he produced "that tackle" to inspire underdogs Penrith to the 2003 NRL grand final upset of the Sydney Roosters.
And Scott Sattler was at it again, capping off a perfect debut for his new club by leading the Wests Tigers to an 18-7 win over defending champs Parramatta to claim their first World Sevens title at Aussie Stadium - and then was named player of the tournament.
Following a barren run since his first grade debut in 1992, trophies now seem to be following the veteran after the Tigers stopped the Eels' quest for three straight World Sevens titles dead in its tracks.
"It's a good feeling, no matter what competition you win," Sattler beamed.
The Tigers looked gone for all money when they dropped their opening game 31-15 to Sattler's former club Penrith and needed to win their final pool match by a convincing margin to guarantee a quarterfinal berth.
The Tigers duly thrashed South Sydney 43-14 to leapfrog the Rabbitohs into the finals - not that Sattler was that surprised.
"I still believed we could win it even after that first match. If anything it made us relax. We just went out there, had fun, threw the ball around."
Sattler is part of an off-season spending spree that has paid immediate dividends for the Wests Tigers who collected a $100,000 winner's cheque.
Apart from Sattler, the Tigers bought up Brett Hodgson and Pat Richards (both ex-Eels), Nick Graham (Sharks) and former Panthers duo Shane Elford and Ben Reynolds.
