Ray to face high contact charge
Geelong acting captain Joel Selwood appears to have suffered no serious injury from his sickening collision with St Kilda opponent Farren Ray.
But Ray is on report for forceful head-high contact with Selwood in the first term of Friday night's match at the MCG, which the Cats won by a point.
Cats officials said on Saturday that Selwood appeared to have had no further problems overnight.
Selwood had just tapped on the ball when Ray cannoned into him from the opposite direction, knocking him out.
The Geelong midfielder, well-known for his fearless attack on the ball, was unconscious for several minutes before he was stretchered from the field.
Geelong were forced to use their substitute Darren Milburn to replace Selwood.
It is understood Selwood wanted to return to the field once he had regained his faculties.
Selwood went to hospital, but was back in the dressing rooms by the end of the game, suffering a headache and a fat lip.
While it was a heavy collision, the match review panel could well clear Ray because the two players were going for the ball.
Ray also appeared to have no realistic alternative but to collide with Selwood.
