Ennis free to take on Manly
NSW hooker Michael Ennis will be free to play in Saturday night's huge NRL clash with Manly despite a high tackle charge.
Ennis received a grade one careless high tackle charge from the match review committee on Monday for a tackle on Gold Coast captain Scott Prince during Canterbury's 28-6 win over the Titans at Suncorp Stadium on Friday night.
Ennis will escape a ban with an early guilty plea or miss one week if he unsuccessfully defends the charge at the NRL judiciary.
The ANZ Stadium clash between the seventh-placed Bulldogs and third-placed Sea Eagles will be the final chance for Blues hopefuls to impress coach Ricky Stuart, who will name his side for State of Origin II this weekend.
Ennis is in a three-way battle for two spots in the NSW side, with St George Illawarra utility Dean Young and fit again former Blues captain Kurt Gidley.
The Bulldogs will almost certainly be without halfback Trent Hodkinson who was charged with grade two dangerous contact for a nasty incident involving Titans back Steve Michaels.
Hodkinson will miss two weeks with an early plea or three with an unsuccessful defence after landing on Michaels' head with his shoulder.
Cronulla centre Ben Pomeroy will be free to play Brisbane on Friday night with an early plea after a grade one dangerous throw charge for a tackle on Melbourne's Dane Nielsen in Sunday's 14-8 loss to the Storm at AAMI Park.
