Worsfold talks about pigeon power
There were three questions on everyone's lips after West Coast's 123-point AFL mauling of the Western Bulldogs in Perth on Sunday.
Had the Bulldogs approached the end of an era? Could West Coast go from wooden spooners to top-four powerhouses within the space of a season? And what was up with those damn pigeons?
Only in time will we know the answers to the first two questions, but Eagles coach John Worsfold was at least able to shed some light on the pigeons.
For those who missed the game, here's the lowdown; two birds, who were later joined by a third, camped themselves just outside the city-end goalsquare of Patersons Stadium at the start of the Bulldogs-Eagles game.
Now that in itself is hardly remarkable, except that these birds simply did not budge - for anything - during the match.
Whether it was a ball or a pack of players charging their way, the brave trio remained unflappable (pardon the pun).
Several players almost even tripped over the darn things as they casually pecked at the ground.
"There was one at training the other day," Worsfold said after the match.
"I don't know if it was one of the players or one of the trainers that tried to scare it off, but it just looked at him, and I think our player backed off."
For the record, no pigeon was harmed during the game. However, the same couldn't be said for the Bulldogs' pride.
