World Cup 'compromised' for prop Domingo
France prop Thomas Domingo's World Cup participation chances are "severely compromised", according to his French Top 14 club Clermont after the player suffered knee ligament damage on Saturday.
The 25-year-old Frenchman's season came to an end when he ruptured cruciate ligaments in his right knee during the 41-13 rout of Biarritz Saturday.
"His season with ASM Clermont Auvergne is now over and his chances of competing in the World Cup are severely compromised," a statement from Clermont said on Sunday.
After undergoing scans late Saturday Domingo will go under the knife "in the coming days", according to Clermont, the reigning Top 14 champions who are battling to qualify for the crucial final phase of the competition.
France coach Marc Lievremont is set to announce a 30-man World Cup squad on May 11.
Domingo's injury could give Lievremont a selection headache ahead of the World Cup, to be held in New Zealand from September 9 to October 23. Domingo's replacement on the left side, Fabien Barcella, is currently recovering from an operation on his Achilles tendon.
Recovery from such an injury is estimated to be six months.
