Fitzgerald may miss Six Nations chance
Ireland and British and Irish Lions winger Luke Fitzgerald looks set to miss his country's defence of the Six Nations Grand Slam title as it was revealed on Monday he would be out for up to six months after rupturing a knee ligament.
The 22-year-old Leinster star - scorer of two tries in 10 Test appearances for his country - ruptured the lateral collateral ligament in his left knee during Ireland's thrilling 20-20 draw with Australia on Sunday.
A scan on Monday revealed that Fitzgerald, son of former Irish prop Des, must undergo surgery.
